I keep reading these stories about the economy that mention "green shoots of optimism" popping up all over the place. While I'm glad to hear that most economists think the recession is bottoming out, it'd be nice if the employment numbers started to change as well. One of the most frustrating economic realities is employment as a lagging indicator of health. It takes a while for employers to shed the jobs in the first place and it takes even longer to convince them to make new ones and hire again.
As it is now fully green around here, with leaves fluttering in the breeze, I can only hope some green will finally shoot up in our apartment. After all, we have great sun exposure...

Are you looking at all into non-degree-related work?
ReplyDeleteI didn't mind being a cleaning person (the company cleaned businesses, so all the cleaning you did was after the business people had gone home). The money isn't great, but it's money, and you get to be by yourself, and it's so obviously temporary until you find something else that, at the very least, you'll go home that day feeling like you've made some money.
Just a thought.
sad as it is to say, i've applied for jobs at starbucks, the bagel shop, a bookstore and today, it's off to applebees. so yeah, i've been looking at the non-degree route, it's not looking back.
ReplyDeleteThe "green shoots" people are talking about are a load of nonsense.
ReplyDeleteAt the moment, the stock market has plateaued… but no one is spending money or creating jobs. There are no "green shoots".
Right now, we're in the eye of the storm. Keep an eye on the price of gas… it goes up as the dollar declines. Eventually, we are going to have massive inflation. To ride herd on the inflation, the Federal Reserve will be forced to increase interest rates to levels unseen in decades. This will cause the economy to come crashing back down. If the Fed fails to hike interest rates, will have punitive hyperinflation.
Pressure on the dollar will become much worse, if Iran becomes politically destabilized or we end up at war, over there.
